Product Description

This is a petal-shaped lens hood. It opens as needed to prevent lens flare problems. It is of the appropriate depth and diameter for wide angle to normal focal lengths. It will thread into your lens filter threads or into the threads of most mounted filters, and it comes with an adjustment ring to ensure proper mounting orientation of the hood on your camera. Petal-shaped lens hoods often protect better than non-petal (round) types. This is because petal-style hoods take into account the aspect ratio of the camera's film or image sensor, and so the angle of view is greater in one direction than the other. The addition of a lens hood can help prevent lens flare, the circles of light that can accompany images where a strong light source is just outside the frame. These types of lens flares occur when indirect light rays pass through the front lens elements but don't make it all the way through to the image sensor or film. Lens hoods not only block side glare but also augment the protection provided by filters to the lens surface and ring.
